Model Expo 2012.

This weekend has been has been on of the busiest in a looong time, as it was the biggest troop for the Nordic Garrison/Nordic Base in Finland. It's the yearly Model Expo, which is the one we all wait for and work hard for. And there HAD been hard work - that's for sure, 'cause not only did we have a brand new Boba Fett, but we had a new Jar Jar Binks! And as far as I know, he is the ONLY fully Rebel Legion approved Jar Jar Binks IN THE WORLD! He looked great, and the kids loved him! And that's what it's all about isn't it? We're doing this to see the kids' faces. Like I mentioned, we had a new Boba Fett as well, which was amazing. The trooper who had the costume, had gotten the poses nailed down also, and was stalking his bounty around the stand. For some reason, the Fett's are always popular - it's not difficult to see who has the FETT-ish for Fetts! My costume was also new and especially for this troop as it was sort of Episode 1 themed because of the 3D release. I proudly wore my Padme's handmaiden Tatooine costume, the first costume that I've made completely all by myself. It was really fun to show it off. It's been a really awesome troop, and I can't believe it's a year until next Model Expo! Looking forward to it already! There are many much more interessting photos than these out there, but these were the ones I had from my camera. I will post some more when I have them.

Spring cookies.

This is what spring is all about: letting baked goods cool in the window sill.
Finally I've got the "go" to troop in my new costume with Rebel Legion. However, I didn't get fully approved (only as "informal") as my pant apparently are wrong. They should be dark purple or plum coloured (which I think is wrong), and I have black. In my opinion, it's true that mine are a bit too dark, but I think the originals are brownish. Anyways, tomorrow will be it's virgin troop, at the Model Expo here in Helsinki! Can't wait!

No care in the world...

On my way to work today, sitting in the bus, I was sort of lookin' down on people, you know - people beneath me. In their cars. As I was sitting there, minding my own business and thinking what a glorious way to travel - no need to look ahead, no need to care about what's around you really, I realised that eventhough you have a car, doesn't mean that you can't be carefree. Driving beside the bus was a man in a silvery-grey car, speeding towards the number 1 highway entrance. Reading his morning newspaper. Over the stering wheel. Carefree. Not knowing that I was carefully noting down his licenceplate number, calling the police on him 15 minutes later.

Bye bye relaxation.

So this was the last day of relaxation that I'm gonna have in a while...next weekend is Model Expo, the biggest event in Finland where the 501st and Rebel Legion troop once a year. I've been working really hard on my new Star Wars Episode 1 costume, to try to get it finished for this Expo. And I made it. Im very happy with the result, now I just hope I don't die of a heat stroke...

Much to do, and much has been done.

This weekend has gone fast - I guess it's because it's been so much to do. On friday, Simo and I went to a birthday party of a friend of a friend at a university campus, and I have to say it was refreshing to hang out with youngsters who had so interessting studies and jobs that I couldn't even pronounce them. Little did I know, that with a guessing game of age and work I turned out to be a 24 year old writer (God, would I love that to be true), and a decision to play Michael Jackson on full blast turned out to become a very interessting disco dance indeed. The party was quite international, with people from USA, Iran, India, France, England, Poland, you name it, and finally it wasn't I who was the party pooper by speaking english and making everyone shy. A very nice evening with some good burrito and great company. On saturday we had a pretty relaxing day, if you can call going to the gym in the morning relaxing and working on my costume until bedtime. I finished though, and that the only thing that matters to me. Bye bye weekend. But that's the way I usually like it. When I looked out of the window today I got the first real feeling of spring this year. Simo, Milla and I took a really long walk, all the way to the center and back, and it was lovely and it really lifted my spirits. Spring has come to Finland, finally. When we returned home I tried my whole Star Wars costume on for the first time and we took pictures, which I will upload here soon.

Weekend of much and such...

Last weekend was one of those that had so much going on that it left me with unlikely energy and happiness.
It all started out on friday when I started to feel ill with the flu, and I JUST recovered from stomachflu and fever, so I was really upset about it.
However, working with children you can't really control these things and I decided to take an easy friday and skip my second art class (and last class of the season) and just be home.
On saturday I had planned a movienight for a few friends, but as one after the other cancelled, we ended up just being two of us. To be honest I didn't mind as I was starting to feel even worse, but as my friend came over and we had great talks and a great hamburger dinner, I didn't notice my flu anymore. Not to speak of the film we chose: Monty Python's The Life of Brian.
It was pretty hard to laugh with such a painful throat, but I managed just fine.

On sunday I was the worst and even had a little fever at some point, but I managed to focus and not let it destroy the day completely, and before you know it, I was back at work on monday!

Last art class before summer!

Today was the last day of my art class before the summer. I brought a painting I've been working on for a while to get the last small bits and peices done so that I can focus on starting on a new one.

This painting is very personal for me, because it's of a dream I had many times growing up. I go through a forest, usually it's a different location every time, but I know it's a dream and that I've been there before. As I go through, I notice that big rocks on my left side are infact bears staring at me. They don't hurt me or anything, just stare. What I do then has been different in every dream. What is the same though is that at the end of the forest I know theres a light meadow and I have to get there.

Sorry about the bad picture, it's from my iPhone.

Bye bye friends.

OK, I'm finally gonna do it. I'm gonna delete all my facebook "friendships" that I haven't spoken with for...years.
Facebook is like Junior High all over again. Keep yourself available INCASE someone cares to talk to you. I don't think so.
It's time to be ignorant of the lives I don't really care about.
And they can be ignorant of me, if they want or not.

April's fools in Finland!

The last couple of weeks have been uplifting after a long and dark winter here in the North of Europe. I started to see some sort of this thing they called "light" and I must say - hey - I liked it!
Happily waiting for the first flowers to bloom (after hearing that it's +15 C in Norway...), I thought the nature was playing an April fool's joke on me, when that very day what looked (and felt) like a snowstorm started outside. When I woke up in the morning it was winter again.

Stardust's photoshoot!

At the Stardust event that I went to on friday, there was a free photoshoot for everyone who had dressed up. We took some really cool pics there and here are some of them!

Charming, huh?

My favourite picture.

Kiasma's Stardust event!

On friday I got up early from work - and thank God for that, as I would have a very long, but interessting day/evening/night.
Kiasma is a contemporary art museum here in Helsinki, that right now has an exhibition about music. They created an event on friday called "Stardust" and for that they hired my MJ girls to do the Thriller dance a couple of times during the evening. I went there to be the camera woman.

They did a phenomenal job as always, eventhough I didn't and failed to delete enough photos from my camera to be able to get the whole dance filmed, at BOTH perfomances...ah well.

Inbetween the performances we got to take a look at the actual exhibition. Eventhough the "tribute" to Michael Jackson was dissapointing, there were many other interessting things, like penises, shaking asses and unicorns. Yeah - I guess you had to be there.
The one this I DID enjoy a lot though was the "Silent Disco". We were basically given an iPod (for the exhange of a peice of property), with a playlist on it and went to an area with lots of people and you were free to dance to the music as much or little as you wanted. It was so much fun!

I met Slash!

After the second Thriller performance we all went to Amarillo to eat dinner, half of us dressed as Michael Jackson and the other half dressed as zombies. The woman behind the counter gave a little happy squeal when we arrived and was obviousely happy to feed us since some of us looked kinda...ill.
While eating a pretty boring salad, a guard came to us and started asking our ID's. I didn't even think about bringing one since I'm soon 30 and also...well, just didn't think of bringing one.
So I explained to the guy and said "seriousely, I'm 29!" He looked at me and said "sorry, but I don't believe that". A nice compliment, but still didn't make it any easier for me. So after a little back and forth he finally believed me and I got to stay there with the rest of the gang.

After the dinner we went out to dance, and headed to the after party for the Stardust event. Of course we expected good old fashioned dance music, but was pretty dissapointed to find ourselves in a hippyish film/art-student bar where everybody knew everybody exept us, and the music was for smoking, not dancing to.
We headed to the club next door, which was better and the music has some beat to it atleast. It was some sort of reggae club, and I have to say that I have never seen as many dreadlocks under one roof in Helsinki!
